Starting Is The Hardest
But You're One Decision Away From A New Life, Post Newsroom.
Starting is the hardest. I stole that line from Bernice Kearney’s post about venturing into something new - 5 months into her retirement from the news industry. She’s not one to sit still. With a long, wild and successful career as a News Director under her belt, she retired after 36 years in the news biz. Please, pause for a moment. That’s major.
In a quick interview with Bernice (let’s be honest, it was an email exchange and after a few back and forths, you can qualify it as an interview) - Bernice said, “It was 100% my choice. I was not a victim of the unfortunate situation that seems to be running rampant across the industry. Simply put, I retired. I wasn’t pushed out, I wasn’t downsized, I wasn’t volun-told to go.”
But she is volun-telling herself to step up and step into new territory.
I love how a conversation with a good friend who knows her strengths got her on to a new career path. Another person’s perspective can be SO valuable when you’re trying to see yourself differently. Quite literally, she was lightly coached into a coaching career.
You’re one decision away from re-invention. Waiting for your lightbulb moment about what to do after news.
Next newsletter, I will give you a juicy list of things you’re qualified to do - that you never thought of. Expect me to skip “Public Relations.” What even is that at this point?
And if you’re unsure of what’s next for you within a few months, I’ll have a fabulous Certified Professional Coach I can recommend then. 😉
